Product Description Planet Bike New Generation floor pumps have a stronger gauge system and are rebuildable.. Dual head works on both Presta and Schrader valves. ALX and STX are now 3" taller and use spring at bottom of stroke for a smooth feel. ALX uses a special lightweight polished aluminum barrel. STX uses a steel barrel, plunger and base. Comp uses super-tough composite construction
Amazon.com Product Description The right tire pressure makes for a great ride. Enter the Planet Bike Comp floor pump, which will get you pumped up fast and back on the saddle. The Comp features a super-tough composite construction, with a large base for stability and a comfortable-on-the-hands Love Handle. The pump's auto-valve dual head, meanwhile, lets you easily inflate both Presta or Schrader valves (it even works with automobile tires). Plus, the 160 psi gauge is easy to read, with color-coded inflation guidelines and precise accuracy. Pressure rated to 200 psi, the gauge is stronger than the previous Comp and comes in a sleek black color.

Well made and fast inflation with the Planet Bike pump! August 19, 2010 Richard B Massa The dual valve-head (shrader & presta) makes this pump a breeze to use for any bike, tractor, etc. I use this pump before every bike ride so I can adjust tire pressure accordingly and have had no problems. I truly believe this pump is equivalent to those that are priced around $50. Long hose, accurate gauge ... great buy!
Mixed opinion - but OK for price August 3, 2010 Opus22 (IA) I've owned this pump for over a year.
First impression was great - very light, nice construction, and comfortable to use.
It is able to connect with presta valves on my recumbent where as my old 'JoeBlow' had a very hard time getting going especially with shorter stems. I have trouble using it at all on schrader valves - go figure. So now I use it for the presta values and the 'JB' for the other bikes.
The big issues I now have with it is getting it off when the correct pressure is reached (~100 psi) - really takes a lot of twisting and pulling and many times I whack myself or something when it does release. I also worry about bending the stem.
This pump requires many more strokes than the JB that I was used to, and the higher pressure requires much more effort, a lot more - almost like a short hand pump.
For the money, it't nice construction and light weight is a positive, but it is mediocre for it's intended use.
I'm ordering another pump shortly (Serfas TCPG Bicycle Floor Pump) - I hope that it attaches / detaches easily on the presta valves and is OK with the schrader. I suspect it is in the same category as to number of strokes and effort as this one looking at the Serfas barrel.
Good pump, good price July 20, 2010 Larry Andershock (Torrance, CA USA) So far so good. Very pleased with the pump. Have not experienced any of the problems noted in other reviews. Will know about presta valves later when I dig my bike out of storage & will update if necessary. This is a good middle tier pump that will definately please those used to lower end, cheap pumps. My guess is those used to spending much more for higher tier pumps may be dissappointed as it has a different look and feel but its proven itself to be mechanically sound so far so I would recommend it!
Decent pump w/ drawbacks July 18, 2010 Isaac R. Levy 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got this pump in november and have been using it to pump up a road bike w/ presta valves. The pump doesn't get good marks for looks - it's a cheap plasticy device. But generally it works well. There's a nice gauge for PSI and the barrel is long enough. The handle is not padded, so I suggest wearing bike gloves when pumping of your hands will get bruised.
By far the biggest issue I've had is with the valve mechanism. And this applies to ALL of planet bike's pumps because they all use the same valve part.
1) the rubber seal can get shredded and not work well - my valve now flies off the tire at >80psi, so I'm buying a new valve. It should not have worn out so quickly, but at least you can get a replacement for cheap (at planet bike's website or on amazon).
2) The lever to activate the seal is *very* stiff. It requires a good deal of force to flip it up to seal the valve. But far worse is flipping down, after a little tug, the lever slams down. You have to have your hand there to flip it, and if your fingers are in the way, you will get really bad bruises, and that's just bad design. Think of the finger injury on par with slapping someone except at the last minute their face is replaced with a steal plate. Pretty bad.
Good Pump at a Good Price July 15, 2010 D. Roti (Martinsville, IN) I've been very happy with this pump. The head has a separate opening for presta and schrader valves which seems to work easier and better than the combination type. The only improvement I can suggest is a little longer rigid collar where the hose attaches to the head so leverage could better be applied when clamping or releasing from the valve. The gauge is large and easy to read. Very light weight but seems to be holding up well.
